Blessed

I always know I am blessed. There is always going to be someone who has it worse off than I do, and even if there wasn't, there is someone trying to go through this life without the help of my Best Friend Jesus, so my life is light years better and easier than theirs. Sometimes I only know this on an intellectual level and say it out-loud to myself so I will remember. But sometimes my heart is so overflowing with blessings and feeling so loved by my Best Friend that I am afraid I will not be able to enjoy all the blessings at once they are so numerous. Moments where I get to do what I was born to do, where I see a light shining on the faces of the people I love, moments where I feel I am making a difference, but most of all, moments where I am suddenly overwhelmed by how my life is full of so many things God has made or done just for me and I am so thrilled to be a part of them I don't know what to do but melt into a little puddle and say "Thank you!" a million times over. Today was one of those days.

It was one awesome thing after another, topped off with getting to spend some time volunteering in the school most of our Compass kids attend. Walking out of the classroom after an hour of doing one of the things I love most, I realized just how incredibly blessed I am. The crazy thing is what makes me so incredibly blessed isn't that I have a family I love so much I cry when I say goodbye to them, or that I have friends who care intensely about me and are always there for me, or that every day I get to go to work and do what I love and get paid for it, or that God keeps opening doors for me and showing me that nothing is impossible for Him, or even that I always have something to eat, clothes that fit, and a warm place to sleep. What makes me incredibly blessed is that I know I am blessed. The fact that God has opened my heart to see His hand in the details of my life is what fills my heart to over flowing. Because when I realize this is not just chance, but rather the loving strokes of a Master Painter who is creating a gorgeous canvas out of the day to day moments of my life, I see how truly blessed I really am.

Sometimes, God puts a cherry on top of the ice cream just because. Today, He did just that. It was four years in the making, with much work and endless support from my family, but today my dream of being a licensed teacher in the state of Nebraska became a reality. There was a pretty serious possibility of me being required to take some extra classes and hence at least another semester before I would be able to get my license, but again, God worked out all the details.
So, I have told you a very few of the ways my life is currently overflowing with blessings, what are a few of yours?

Look Up

A week or so ago I was talking to a young woman and asked her how things were going. She replied with, "Well, everything in my life kind of sucks right now, but..." I tried to encourage her by saying, "Well, that means things can only get better, right?" We all know that isn't true, things can always get worse. In thinking about it I realized that instead of fearing what can happen to make a situation worse, we should focus on what things we have to be thankful for right now.

I took this picture a few days back through the skylight above the staircase at Compass.

Always look up. If it weren't for the nights we cry ourselves to sleep, we would never appreciate the ones we drift off smiling.

Smile

I was realizing today how blessed I am to have so many people in my life who make me smile. And how blessed I am to have gotten to spend time with them recently. Here are just a few pictures that make me grin every time I see them. I hope they do the same for you!

Matching hats and sunglasses? Oh yeah....

How can you not grin when looking at those two smiles?

My Compass kids reading... Makes my little heart melt.

Best roommate ever. So awesome I asked her to be my roommate even when we were grown up. You rock! (I roll).

Any questions why getting to see these guys is the best part of my work day?

Mom says he chairs my fan club. All I have to say is he said I could write it on him and that smile melts my heart every time...

Beauty

I have been slowly reading through the book "Captivating" by John and Stasi Eldredge. It has been really good for me, reminding me of many things I had forgotten and introducing a few new ways of looking at things. One thought they introduced me to was the woman's role of unveiling beauty in the world around her. One does not have to look past the title of this blog to know seeking out the beauty around me is one of my life quests. A weekend ago God poured out a foot of the most beautiful snow I have ever seen, making this an easy task. In fact, for three days I could hardly do anything but marvel at how gorgeous it was. I know my phone camera won't do it justice, but without further ado I would like to share a couple of pictures along with some thoughts I have recently come across about beauty.

"There is a radiance hidden in your heart that the world desperately needs." ~Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge.

"Some people look for a beautiful place...."

"...others make a place beautiful."
